TAO Chinese Cuisine is a cozy little, oriental Chinese restaurant tucked at the first floor of Intercontinental KL, which serves some amazing traditional indulgences, prepared by the award-winning executive Chinese Chef Wong Lian You. To set us on our Chinese New Year experience Chef Wong and his kitchen had prepared a Hokkaido Scallop, North Canadian Lobster Claw with Passion Fruit Sauce Yee Sang to toss for a prosperous year ahead.

Hokkaido Scallop, North Canadian Lobster Claw with Passion Fruit Sauce Yee Sang

The Yee Sang has some really freshly selected scallops and lobster claw's which had a good flavour mixed in with the crunchy and colorful bits of  the dish. and the passion fruit sauce is     something of a unique break from tradition which gives the whole dish a new and refreshing touch to the typical yee sang, adding a hint of sourness and sweetness for extra excitement!

Double-Boiled Black Garlic and Sea Treasures Soup


 A warming bowl of soup with black garlic, fish maw, mushrooms, scallops, sea cucumber and chicken which was flavoured with a faint of herbs. This is exactly the sort of soup that keeps you warm and fuzzy for the next dish..

Deep-Fried Stuffed Chicken Skin with Mango Mayonnaise


An interesting dish of Deep-Fried Stuffed Chicken Skin with Mango Mayonnaise. It was gorgeous and had some lovely flavours. The chicken skin was stuffed with a seafood paste and coated with sesame all over, good and cruchy the way I like it.

Steamed King Tiger Garoupa with Cordycep Flower, Red Date and Ginger


This may have been a relatively simple plate of steamed fish, but it was one full of flavour. The King Tiger Garoupa with Cordycep Flower, Red Dates and slices of ginger which was incredibly delicious, refined and perfectly seasoned too. just mouth-watering.

Wok-Fried Prawns with Salted Egg Yolk, Fresh Curry Leaves and Chili


Wok-Fried Prawns with Salted Egg Yolk was another lovely dish, flavoured with fresh curry leaves and chili. Although it wasn't the typical crispy coating on top but the salted egg yolk with the prawns was creamy, rich with  not an ounce of greasiness.

Stewed Abalone with Sea Cucumbers and Duo-Coloured Dumplings


As far as dishes go this was certainly my highlight, in fact it was probably one of the best Chinese mushrooms and vegetables dishes I've had. Sweet abalone slices, flavourful sea cucumbers, mushrooms and pretty looking duo-coloured dumplings. The best part of this dish was the Duo-Coloured Dumplings, the thin dumpling wrapper with vegetables stuffing inside, tastes as pretty as it looks, simply too good to resist.

Steamed Glutinous Rice with Preserved Duck Leg, Salted Egg Yolk and Dried Oyster


 Dinner won't be complete without rice. The classic steamed glutinous rice was brilliantly executed with preserved duck leg, salted egg yolk and dried oyster, simply immensely enjoyable.

Deep-Fried Sweet Potato "Ninko" served with Chilled Aloe Vera, Peach and Osmanthus Oolong Tea Syrup 


Little heads up, desserts are dangerously addictive. A bowl of sweet and cooling Aloe Vera, Peach and Osmanthus Oolong Tea Syrup paired with Deep-Fried Sweet Potato "Ninko" which is crispy from the outside and sweet on  inside, is what I can only describe as a match made in heaven.
