Haagen-Dazs New Premium Flavoured Lattes

Who wouldn’t get super psyched about the matrimony between coffee and ice cream? As a avid coffee drinker , I was sold. Although i am hardly accused of being seen eating ice cream, I was no stranger to Haagen Dazs. I’m sure most of you arent too.  The smooth and creamy texture of their premium ice creams surely invokes a lot of fond memories.

Haagen-Dazs Premium Flavoured Lattes crafted with iconic ice cream flavours

Now allow me to present to you the six flavours of Haagen Dazs Premium Lattes, you can salivate to . (Warning : kindly keep a handkerchief nearby)...

So here are the details. You can now enjoy the taste of both Haagen Dazs ice cream and illy® coffee made to perfection in a cup that comes six different flavours.  Fun fact, Ice Cream Coffee isnt a completely new concept. It is widely known in Vietnam and is even largely considered a must try in Vietnam.  Regardless of that fact, Haagen Dazs manages to take it up a notch to deliver coffee with the true taste of craftmanship, given both brands’ dedication to uncompromising quality. Be it macadamia nuts harvested from Hawaii, chocolate from Belgium, vanila from Madagascar or milk and cream from France, it is this dedication to quality that is the hallmark of Haagen Dazs. Illy® is an Italian based coffee manufacturer which has catered rich and full-bodied, yet velvety smooth coffee for over 80 years.

Haagen-Dazs Vanilla & Cream Latte

Yes this isn’t quite what you expected to see first. Allow me to explain, before each latte was served we were given a spoonful of their ice creams that represented the flavour of each latte. Of course, this is just available during the launching so we get the full idea on what to expect. For purely research purposes though, we needed extra. (Yea right)

If there's anything that the Vanilla and Cream Ice Cream hinted was that it  wasn't shy with flavour. You can taste the richness of the flavour that lingers in your mouth even with just a small helping.

Now for the latte. As you can see the left is the hot version while the right is the iced latte. In terms of first impressions, I liked the generous amounts of cream and the size of the beverage itself. Fitting for occasions like having long talks with friends or long business meetings.

As a self proclaimed coffee connoisseur ,I believe one of  the important aspects of enjoying  cup of coffee before drinking it, is the smell. The scent that wakes you up in different ways. Like for this particular latte, it was gentle and sweet.  In terms of taste, I found that  it was a little more sweeter than the smell suggested. I’d recommend to ask for less sugar because the sweetness overwhelmed the combination of vanilla and cream. Though the aftertaste was like warm milk and slight hints of sweetness. In a nutshell, this is a comfortable, sweet and smooth drink best suited as an initiation in the coffee experience.

Haagen-Dazs Cookies and Vanilla Cream Latte

Tastes just as good as it looks. I will not soon forget the silky and playful taste of the cookies and cream ice cream.

Doesn’t the setting kind of remind you of the night before Christmas where your parents would usually leave a cup of milk and some cookies for Santa?

This was happiness in a cup. Allow me to elaborate. Firstly, the smell was very inviting  and you could smell the velvety texture as soon as it is served. I’ve always had a weakness for Oreo’s and if you do to, this is the drink for you.  The moment  you take the first sip, the smooth and rich texture along with the well balanced coffee flavour will certainly make you smile.  The only downside I would say is that I would prefer to have more Oreo’s . Nevertheless, if your inner child is sleeping then grab a cup of Cookies and Vanilla Cream Latte for a playful awakening .

Haagen-Dazs Macadamia Nuts Latte

One of the first things I noticed about this particular latte was the layers.  It definitely represented the skills of the barista. Making a layer latte is one thing but to do that while trying to perfect the temperature between the heat of the coffee and ice cream is certainly no feat to overlook.

The Macadamia Nut Ice Cream already teased my taste buds with a nutty, tropical flavour. Did the Macadamia Nut Latte do the ice cream flavour justice? I’d say it’s pretty good but it wasn’t great.  I liked the slight nutty flavour and well balanced sweetness. Though upon taking several sips, the flavour seemed too streched so it lacked the richness the ice cream had.  You could opt for this flavour when you are looking for subtlty .

Haagen-Dazs Green Tea Latte

This was basically my expression when I knew it was time for Green Tea Latte. Not so sure if I had the acquired taste for it.  Though it was a needed break from having a lot of coffee.

The ice cream itself was actually pretty tasty. It had a very strong green tea flavour but it works. The latte looked less intimidating to me after the ice cream.

You could smell the zen oozing out of the cup. I’ve always found green tea soothing. It also has many properties that make it a primary choice for health buffs. High antioxidants , vitamins , minerals and countless other benefits . Though it would not make my top 3 choices for a latte as it probably is for a unique pallete. It had an earthy taste and silky texture.  Best suited for a more adventurous taste bud I’d say.

Haagen-Dazs Strawberry Latte

The ice cream itself was much firmer than the others. Taste wise it was a little more on the sweet side. Personally I am not a fan of strawberries but if I were to have strawberry ice cream. I’d choose Haagen Dazs. The flavour was gentle and melts softly in my mouth.

Now for the review of the Strawberry Latte:

Put me on a blindfold test and I might guess berries. Its not overwhelming but you could smell the fruitiness of the latte. You could almost mistaken it for a smoothie. The coffee made the drink dense and rich so it definitely still taste like a latte. The downside would be that it was way too sweet for my liking.  As someone who isn't a fan of strawberries , I wasn’t as taken with the latte as I was with the ice cream. If you are a strawberry fan , do let me know what you think.

Haagen-Dazs Chocolate Latte

Chocolate ice cream,  what could go wrong? Nothing. The chocolatey taste of the ice cream was luscious to the touch. The remarkably rich flavour of the chocolate lingered while building up my expectations.

It is as good as it looks. The chocolate and coffee scent was dancing in my nostrils in perfect rhythm. It was not overwhelming but by scent you could tell it was a good pairing. My taste buds will never forget the rich, chocolatey and comforting flavours. It wasn’t too sweet and the coffee played well together with the richness of the chocolate. After tasting, there was a bitter and chocolaty aftertaste which is typically a good sign. In a nutshell, chocolate and coffee lovers will not regret this choice. It represents the best of both worlds and even if you are more impartial to chocolate or coffee. This latte particularly can cater to that palette in the richness of  its flavours.

My oh my how deliciously sinful.  Haagen-Dazs has truly expanded and redefined the coffee and ice cream experience. My picks would be the Cookies and Vanilla Cream, Macadamia Nut and Chocolate Latte. Though I would opt for the Green Tea latte on days I make healthier choices.  The concept of Ice Cream Coffee will start to catch on and it does have the potential to grow as a big cultural phenomenon just like in Vietnam. Will Haagen-Dazs be the one to make it big in Malaysia We’ll see.

Head on down to any of  the 18 Haagen-Dazs outlets to sample the creations, which retail at RM 14 (hot) and RM 14.50 (iced) per cup.

Go ahead and try the Haagen-Dazs Flavoured Latte for yourself !
